Carol Maker, LCSW
I have spent 21 years living and practicing in Portland, Ore. I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Oregon (#L2953), and am a certified in EMDR Therapist, and as a traumatologist by the Traumatology Institute (#1378). I am a member of the national and local associations for clinical social workers and the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, as well as a past member of the Society for Spirituality in Social Work.
I use a variety of techniques to create the most comprehensive and individual experience for my clients. I have practiced EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for 14 years, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) for 12 years. I am both a certified EMDR therapist and an Approved Consultant, which means I certify other therapists in EMDR. At times, I also integrate some of Donna Eden’s energy medicine techniques in my practice. For couples counseling, I have taken the Gottman Institute training Marriage Therapy, A Research-Based Approach, and I have done training with the Couples Institute. I blend my understanding of these techniques approaches from Emotionally Focused Therapy (another EFT) that clearly demonstrates the unique role that emotions play in relationships.
Books that influence my practice/Recommended Reading List:
- 7 Principles of Making Marriage Work by John Gottman, Ph.D.
- Tell Me No Lies, How to Face the Truth and Build a Loving Marriage, by Ellyn Bader, Ph.D. and her husband Peter Pearson, Ph.D.
